keybinding over ssh into ubuntu server

	I'm trying to SSH into an ubuntu server, and whenever I use vi, the keybindings are messed up. Backspace sends a forward delete, and the arrow keys send A, B, C, or D followed by a line break. I assume the preferences are somewhere Preferences>Settings>Keyboard, but I don't know how to go about editing those. Any help with this would be appreciated.
