I recently reloaded my MacPro to clear out some nuisances and now when I put Windows XP SP3 to standby mode I hear a fan running in my Mac. I thought, like a car, it may need to run to get the computer under a certain temperature then it'll turn off, but it kept spinning. I woke my Mac up and turned it off...

The one thing I did differently was to use Apple's nVidia drivers instead of the drivers from nVidia's site (since I had a Leopard DVD with them on it, not 10.5.0).

Does anyone else have this problem? BTW, I have the 1st-gen MacPro with nVidia 8800GT. Thanks.

Well I just reinstalled by known good nVidia drivers and my MacPro still won't go to sleep...the power LED stays on (not pulsing) and I can hear a fan running. The hard drives, USB, and display all go to sleep, however.

I've seen a lot of SP3 issues. Did you have these problems before SP3?

No problems with SP2 and none with SP3 until I reinstalled. May be due to installing XP drivers with a 10.5.4 disc instead of a 10.5.0 disc (the 10.5.0 disc worked fine). I deleted Bootcamp and am using my VMWare for my Xp needs. I'm also installing CrossOver Games to get my CounterStrike:Source fix...

Just finished installing CounterStrike:Source into CrossOver games and it's not so good. Mouse wheel doesn't update quick enough to change weapons in a rapid manner and there's some graphical glitches. Crossover Games is in the trash and I'm restoring my WinClone of my XP SP3 partition. I'll wait for a fix and hope it's quick...

Did a bunch of reading and found out the problem may lie with ACPI and was recommended I check the Device Manager. Here's a stolen screenshot but it's the same as mine:

I removed the Apple Drivers from the 10.5.4 disc (think they wee BootCamp 2.1 drivers) and installed the drivers from my 10.5.0 disc and no change. I'm going to reinstall from my SP2 disc, do my updates, and see at what point the drivers stop working...tell my wife I'll see her in a week and that I'm ok

I've reinstalled Windows XP SP2 and haven't updated to SP3 yet but my Mac goes to sleep fine in XP. Device manager shows problems are with: "SM Bus Controller" and three "PCI standard host CPU bridge"
