I was just wondering if just some USB device don't work under paralelles. It works fine in boot camp but in paralelles, upon insertion, I don't get that sound effect that I have added a new device or removed a device. I do get a dialog box that asks if i want to use the USB device under mac os vs virtual machine and of course, I select virtual machine. (I've even tried both).

Now, what I am trying to plug in is the RF usb 'dongle' that receives information from keypads. It's a audience response system. So each member of my audience has a keypad, they can enter in a response, and the computer 'polls' the results. Under bootcamp, when I insert the RF dongle, it works and recognizes it. But paralelles doesn't even make a sound. The only type of notification I get is from paralelles giving me the 'which OS' dialog box.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Dumb question: are you using the Boot Camp partition for your VM? If not, have you installed the drivers for this thing in the VM?

In Windows, open the System control panel, select the Hardware tab and click Device Manager. Is the device in the list under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers"? If it has a question mark next to it, it might not have been recognized correctly. Right-click and select uninstall. Then remove and reinsert the dongle.

Also, in the Parallels devices menu, is the dongle listed with a checkmark under USB devices?

Steve... I just tried your steps and I actually uninstalled 1 of two, then on the other one, I selected enable and it started loading all this stuff. I opened the program that the RF device links to (which opens powerpoint) and it worked!! Thank you so much! I just saw that PPT was recognizing the device and I'll test it if I can tomorrow (the key pads are at my school).

And it did have question marks by them...
