or should I enter bootcamp proper for downloading?

Works fine for me when I do the updates in VMWare (with BootCamp as well).

I've had Windows updates screw up my Boot Camp partition when I installed 'em under Parallels. Something about Parallels' different boot configuration may have played a part in this. In any case, I do NOT run Windows updates under Parallels anymore.
