First of all, it is my understanding that I have to purchase a 68k-mac in order to extract the mac rom from the computer. My whole point in doing this is that I have some old games (i.e. - T7G, Legend of Kyrandia, Flashback) that I'd like to play again. While researching all of this I have found an old Performa 577 with a 680LC40 processor that I could purchase, which leads to my first question.
1) Does Basilisk II support 680LC40 processors as opposed to the regular 68040?
2) Can I expect that a game like the 7th Guest would run well on Basilisk II?
3) Will this render the 68k mac unusable or is this just a matter of copying data?
This is something I would really love to do and any help/advice anyone could give me would be great. Thank you.

To be honest, I have no idea how you'd extract the Mac ROM from a 680X0 machine.
I'd think it's *much* simpler to spend another five minutes on an exhaustive google search and just download them from the 'net.

The first two links should help you out.

Simpler? Yes. Legal? Not so much.
It's pretty easy to extract the ROM from an old Mac - all you have to do is download one of the various "copy ROM" apps and run it on the machine in question.
An alternative is to download SheepShaver instead, which can work with a ROM file that is freely downloadable from Apple's site, although you have to have a machine with Classic support in order to extract the file (Google for details). SheepShaver is largely based on the Basilisk II code and uses the exact same 680x0 emulator, but includes PPC emulation as well. The caveat here is that SheepShaver doesn't work with Mac OS 9.1 or higher, so you have to have 9.0.4 (ideal) or an earlier version such as Mac OS 8.x.

Thanks for your help guys. I'm more than likely going to go the route of buying the performa and use its rom. Any idea about whether the 68LC040 is compatible with basilisk II?

It sure is. I extracted the ROM from my parents' old Quadra 605 shortly before it got sent to the dumpster, and have been using that - it works great, and the 605 had an 68LC040 processor.
Like I said, though, you can use SheepShaver without having to have a ROM at all - as long as you can get access to a Classic-capable machine that can run TomeViewer.
