When VM Fusion claims it can "import" a VM ... I'm wondering if it can do the following

I have a working Boot Camp-based Windows machine running on a first generation MacBook. I am getting a MacBook Air. Instead of reinstalling Windows XP (because you only get to install it a limited number of times), can I install VM Fusion (or Parallels, for that matter) onto the new MacBook Air and have it "import" the VM from the MacBook? And would this obviate the need to install Windows?

(I would then wipe the MacBook, so we're not talking about having multiple copies of Windows running - which would be in violation of their License).

Run Fusion from your MacBook. It can import your Boot Camp partition*. It'll make a VM from it, which you can just copy to your new MacBook Air.

Another option is to use Winclone to clone your MB Boot Camp partition to a MBA Boot Camp partition.

*Open Fusion, click your Boot Camp partition VM from the left, then choose Import.

Dude, why so "technical" ?

Just reinstall Windows, if you wish, and delete the old one afterwards.
The intent of the license is that you don't USE two copies of Windows concurrently.

If installing one, and then deleting the old one would be a violation of the license, I'd say screw M$ and their license.
