I have a first generation Mac Pro with a GeForce 8800GT and an Apple Cinema Display 30". With Boot Camp while running Windows XP, the display works well since I am able to set it up to 2560*1600 but it is annoying than every time Windows starts up the display brightness is set to maximum. I can't see any brightness controller within Windows… is there such a thing?.

Then, having installed latest Boot Camp for XP 32 bits from Apple, the display is listed as generic or something like that, is that how is it expected to be?. Windows XP icons look really horrid, like a bad masked pict, I can't remember them looking that bad under VMware Fusion. I have installed the NVIDIA drivers/apps for the 8800 GT but that only does provide me with a gazillion of controllers I am not going to make use of.

Besides that, wasn't XP Pro supposed to support both CPUs and up to 3 GB RAM?, Mac Pro has 8 GB RAM, "My PC" shows this:

What does that mean… am I mistaken or is XP only aware of just one CPU?. (yeah, I somewhat forget to use the print screen key, don't know where is it…)

oh well, it is a 32 bit XP build, but even so the ceiling would be 3 GB RAM… has to be some sort of Microsoft tax

Use the /3GB switch for 3GB instead of 2.

XP Home supports 1 CPU socket (so 2-4 cores for the Mac Pros), XP Pro supports 2 CPU sockets (4-8 cores for the Mac Pros). Open up Task Manager to see how many CPUs you can use.

Thanks Mark, I ended deleting the Boot Camp Windows partition due to viruses (even when I had AVG installed and running), then I have set it again and after installing the Boot Camp drivers from my MacBook Pro Leopard DVD disc as opposed to downloading them from the net as before, now I can adjust the brightness from the Boot Camp control panel.

As for the CPUs I will check that since I am still running XP Pro SP3, no Vista here.

I don't understand what you mean about the /3GB switch. Sorry.
