Hi - First - I'm a new mac user and I LOVE my macbook pro!

I just downloaded and installed VMWare Fusion on my mac. I have a PC that had VMWare on it. I want to clone the VM on my PC and import it in VMWare Fusion. Can someone walk me through the steps to do this?

NOTE: I already have a clone (from a few months ago) of my PC VM. I opened VMWare fusion on my mac and tried to "import" the clone but the clone file is grayed out so I can't select it. So - I downloaded VMWare converter on my PC VM and I'm creating a new "conversion file". It sort of looks like the "conversion file" is simply a regular VM clone but not sure. Maybe when the "conversion file" is done - THAT file will be able to be imported to VMWare Fusion on my mac????

Thanks in a advance for any help you can provide.
Caitlin

No clue here...have you tried the VMWare Fusion Forums? I just found this which may be helpful...though it converts a PC to a VM but I bet the program they use (free) can do the VM from PC to Mac...

Can't you just create a new VM, and then move your .vmdk in to replace the blank one created by the new VM creation wizard? I think all the import does is import VM settings, but these settings can easily be recreated.

He should be able just to use the vmdk file.

What happens when you copy the vmdk file to your virtual machines folder and double click it? (copying it probably isn't needed but I like to me my VMs organized there).

You don't want the Import command, that's something else (I don't recall exactly what it does off the top of my head and don't want to give misleading information, so I'll leave it at that).

We share a common file format between our hosted products, you should be able to just open the virtual machine in Fusion, no need for conversion or importing or creating a new virtual machine with the old disks or anything. The only trick is that Fusion is the only one to use .vmwarevm bundles (because other platforms don't have a concept of bundles), so you want to direct Fusion at the .vmx config file.
