Hi guys,

So I'm trying to install windows on my Macbook Pro using the Boot camp assistant. I delegate 32gb for windows then the assistant formats that space and restarts the comp, so far so good.

Now when it's restarted I am in the windows installer program with the blue screen after a few steps it asks me to choose the partition I want to install windows to and press enter. But as soon an as I press enter over the partition (the one set up by boot camp) it goes straight to installing the files, instead of asking if I wanted to reformat into FAT32 or NTFS.

And as a result I get the disk boot error when I try to run windows after installation.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to our forums!

I'd place the blame for this one on your XP disc. It appears that it's set up to expect an NTFS partition is already there. There's lots of scripting potential in the XP Installer, and this is only one small sample of it.

Do you know someone who also has an XP install disc? You could try using their disc and your license key.

Wait. Isn't Boot Assistant supposed to format partition for Windows as well? Because if not then from your scenario Windows installer won't be able to copy files to it (as it's only able to work with FAT and NTFS).

Try re-creating Windows slice in Mac OS X and check what your options are when you get to the stage of choosing the partition in Windows blue screened setup. Try deleting that partition by pressing 'L'.

Boot Camp Utility marks the partition as NTFS automatically. It doesn't even do a "quick" format, which would not be quick in any case. Windows has to format that partition itself, which is usually no problem, but seems to be not available for this person's specific install disc.
