I'm wondering if anyone knows of some decent free notepad software for Windows - obviously I know about the built-in Notepad program and that doesn't qualify as decent. I use MacJournal on the Mac side and sometimes Mail Notes, so I'm just looking for a basic note app.

What are you looking for in terms of "basic notes" ?
What features ?

Just a note file where I can add a new note, type something into, come back to it later, type something else, and not have to save a new individual text file every time I want to create a new note. Windows Notepad is just a text editor and not a real note application - I'm looking for a simple note app.

I'll check out cgc's links - thank you.

You could use Evernote, which has Mac & iPhone clients and syncs any combination of them via the internet. Downsides: 1) you have to trust the company with your data, and 2) the clients have ads if you're not a "premium" member.

As slugslugslug said, Evernote is near perfect when it comes to collecting / organizing / sharing notes.

I'm a happy paying premium member.
