Welcome to the forums!

This is probably an issue with the drivers for the video system. If the Vista drivers don't appropriately work your video out, then the external monitor won't work. Vista is full of driver issues, by the way.

Depending on which MBP you have, you may be able to get an upgraded driver from either Apple or the video system's manufacturer (different models have different video systems). What specific MacBook Pro do you have?
