I need to yank a few files from a machine I have running Windows Server 2k3. Thing is, some are too large for a DVD and I don't want to drop cash on a large jump drive. I currently do not have XP installed on my MBP, so that isn't an option (though if need be, it could). I was hoping I could access the drive from OS X and pull the needed files.
Is it possible or do I have to bite the bullet?

OS X supports SMB. Windows knows it as CIFS. Just access the share or create a share with the files you want.
An alternative is to enable FTP on the Win2k3 machine. How To Set Up an FTP Server in Windows Server 2003
FTP would likely be much faster than a SMB copy.

Sure, just turn on Windows File Sharing and connect to the machine via Samba.

Doesn't work since my install CD is not SP2.

How so? I haven't played with Windows in a long time. Also, Samba is unknown to me.

Huh? I was talking about OS X: booted into OS X and with the Mac on the same subnet as your 2k3 server, your OS X machine should be able to see Windows shares.
Also SMB = CIFS = SAMBA

Well crap, now I cannot even get into the OS. My evaluation period expired and it just boots me out completely.
I am trying to install with a CD I have, but even booting from it doesn't do any good. It just goes to the same message.
Any advice? At this point, I just need to reinstall the entire OS, but it doesn't seem to want to play that way.

Doesn't matter. My (legit) key didn't work with my (legit, though borrowed, could be different releases) install cd. I am just going to install XP Pro.

If you have an external enclosure, pop in the HDD and plug it into your Mac. Your Mac will read NTFS, which I assume is the filesystem you used for 2k3.
