I have an interesting situation, to say the least.

At my University, under the MSDN program, copies of Windows 7 are provided for free to students via internet download. The problem is; I obviously need to download the file (16 Gigabytes), as opposed to install it using a DVD.

Now to explain my current setup: I have bootcamp installed on a 200 Gig Macbook Pro hard drive, with a bootcamp partition for Windows Vista of 50 Gigabytes. What I'm basically trying to figure out is, can I simply run the install file for my Windows 7 off of an external HD, and it will simply overwrite my current Vista setup, then I can install the Mac OSX Snow Leopard CD and get all the drivers/bootcamp files?

I also have VMWare Fusion installed on my Mac. I'm not sure what will happen with that. This whole situation is just really making me anxious because I don't know what exactly to do.

If worse comes to worse, I can pay for a W7 upgrade disc, purge my bootcamp partition, and simply install a new one, I suppose.

Ok, so why don't you just try the external HD route ?

I don't know the answer, but it's free for you to find out.
