This may not be a new topic but an old problem for which I have yet to find an answer. I have a new iMac 27” i7 on which I have installed Windows XP Home Edition. I can’t get the Magic Mouse to work.

I have tired a number of solutions. I have gone through the Windows trouble shooting process and not found anything wrong except that the mouse still doesn’t work. I have reinstalled the Bootcamp drivers from the Snow Leopard OS DVD but that did nothing.

All this has entailed a lot of exploration and exposition for me in the Windows wilderness and I have been able to identify the point at which my mouse refuses to come out of its hole.

In Windows when I go into the Control Panel/Printers and other Hardware/Bluetooth devices a window opens with two pale icons, one is the keyboard and the other the mouse. The Keyboard icon is identified as “passkey enabled” and “connected”. The mouse is identified as “enabled” but there is no connected entry. When I highlight the mouse icon, click on Properties and click on the Services tab a touch appears and looks for and finds a check box labelled “Drivers for keyboard, mice, etc (HID)”.

When I check this box and click either “OK” or “Apply” a window opens titled “Bluetooth Service Error” telling me that “Access is denied”.

Denied! Denied! Windows XP is behaving like my best friends mother telling me her son has a cold and I can't come over to play and he can't come out.

I downloaded the update "AppleBcUpdate.exe" from the link:

About Bluetooth Update 1.0 for Windows

and tried to install it in Windows.

As the link explained it is possible to get the following message "This update is not intended for this computer and will not be installed". I got that message and so got no further.

A young friend of mine has also recently purchased an iMac. We installed Windows XP using Boot Camp together on his machine and he has the same problem. So there must be others out there with this problem and others with a solution.

So how do I get this best friend (my Magic Mouse) to come out and play in Windows XP?

Did you try this?
Boot Camp Drivers Update 2.2 for Windows
It also includes support for the Apple Magic mouse and wireless keyboard. It is intended only for use with Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows Vista running on a Mac computer using Boot Camp.

Thanks AKcrab

Yes I think this was one of the things I tried but just in case I tried again. I downloaded the file and tried to install it. I received the following message from the Windows Installer:

"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch."

I did so. This update is for Boot Camp 2.1. I have Boot Camp 3.0.1.

Thanks anyway.

Fixed, my mouse is out and about in Windows XP.

And the solution???

Go to Apple Wireless Keyboard (2009): Windows does not recognize some special key functions when using Boot Camp and install Boot Camp 3.1 Update.

The page claims its for the Apple Wireless Keyboard in Windows but it fixed my shy mouse.
