Hello,
I am running Mac OS X v10.5 and am trying to install Windows XP SP3 on a separate partition. I have done this before on three other Macs which is why I am confused as to why this is happening. I can create the partition fine, even boot into the Windows XP installation CD which begins installation.
The initial "Windows Setup" installation screen of Windows XP runs and installs fine. I can format the partition, specify where i want it to install, etc with no problem. The problem occurs when the installer needs to reboot the computer to begin the second installation phase.
After Windows Setup installs the initial files, it will need to reboot the system. Once it reboots, it goes into the second phase of installation, where you have the "Collecting Information," "Dynamic Update," "Preparing Installation," etc screens. My Mac will boot into this screen for about 6 seconds, then will automatically freeze, and reboot the entire system. Due to this, I cannot get past this installation phase and cannot install Windows. I have tried other Windows XP SP2 and SP3 CDs with the same result: it just doesn't get past this installation screen. No error message, no warning, etc at all, it simply stops and reboots.
I have searched these forums before and have found little that pertains to this problem. I have tried recreating the partition many times, trying to install using various other settings and hard drive formats with no success. Any suggestions?
Thank you!
