So McAfee distributes a virus definition file update that identified some Windows system files as a virus and causes Windows pee-cees world-wide to reboot endlessly.

Well, i don't think the identification was all that far off.

They could not have tested the update. Umm, I think test machines rebooting constantly would be indicative of a problem, no?

I have generally been under-impressed by McAfee's AV products overall. While I can't say I've actually used many versions of McAfee, I have helped others undo stuff that McAfee had done to their machines. This, while disappointing, is not shocking.
