I own a Macbook, working on it from past 3 years, having following specification
---------------------
Processor: 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 1 GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM
HDD: 80GB
OS loaded: 2, Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and Microsoft Windows XP SP2
----------------------
A day before, I was working on my Macbook on Windows. It just hanged at at a moment, i hardbooted it. After that i switched on the machine, it displayed nothing for some time, and after that it displayed console with message
"Disk Error"
Please press any key to restart.
But pressing key didnot helped.
I tried following options then
(1)Switched OFF and then during switch ON, i pressed alt (option) key. At this point mouse cursor came, but it DIDNOT display the disk option (i.e. snowleopard and windows)
(2) I inserted Snow leopard DVD and restarted MacBook with pressing alt (option) key. Still it didnot show me anything
(3) Inserted Windows XP SP2 and restarted MacBook with pressing alt (option) key. Still it didnot show anything:
----------
Please tell me the correct approach, so taht i can atleast boot into any OS
Regards,
Rohit

Try zapping your pram: hold cmd-opt-p-r at startup, wait for 2 boot chimes, release all keys except option and see if that gets you out of it.

"Disk Error"

I tried following options

1. alt key press: It didnot show any disk
2. c. To boot from CD rom, but it didnot boot from there. It AUTOMATICALLY EJECTED THE CD
3. Cmd-opt-p-r, to wash PRAM, but also didnot help
4. cmd-opt-shift-delete, to force boot from CD ROM, but it didnot work. It AUTOMATICALLY EJECTED THE CD

So finally, I went to istore in our area. He told that ur disk crashed. So we replaced it with brand new Mac OS X formatted disk.
BUT Still the issue remains there !!! Now when i boot the system , it remains gray, after some time it displays "FOLDER WITH QUESTION MARK ("?")" icon.

I have tried all the options i tried before, but the issue remains there. IN ALL THE CASES TRIED IT SHOWS FOLDER WITH QUESTION MARK.

WHAT CAN BE THE ISSUE ? Has any SCSI controller damaged? OR it is issue with firmware/software?

Please provide your comments.

Thanks,
Rohit

I moved your new post into your existing thread, because it's a continuation of the same problem. We STRONGLY discourage multiple posts or threads on the same issue.

The question mark indicates that the Mac doesn't know where to boot from. It's unlikely that the controller has been damaged, but I'm not sure why your optical drive keeps ejecting the disc you put into it-and you don't specify whether it's your OS X disc or a Windows Disc. I would try to insert the OS X disc AFTER the question mark icon shows up-that may allow the machine to read the disc and boot from it. Once it boots for you, let us know how things are going.

1. I tried with both disks, i.e. Mac OS X 10.4.3 (it came along with my Macbook) and Windows XP SP2 bootable CD.

2. I inserted the OS X disc AFTER the question mark icon shows, but it ejects out the disk

3. I inserted the Windows XP SP2 disc AFTER the question mark icon shows, but it ejects out the disk

Please suggest.

It sounds like your boot loader was overwritten by the Windows boot loader, which would have happened if you tried to install Windows outside of Boot Camp. If you did this, don't do it again, Windows is retarded about working with other operating systems on the same machine, which is why Apple created Boot Camp.

Unless there is a way to reinstall the OS X boot loader, you have to reinstall OS X. I don't know why it is spitting out your CD though, are you sure it is good? Have you tried it on another Mac?

Does it sound like the DVD is spinning and being read, or is it just ignored?

When ever i insert DVD/CD, i hear very very small spinning for a small duration, and it takes some time and then it ejects it.

Do you think DVD drive also crashed?

PS: My hardisk is now new with Mac OS X formatted. Even if i insert my DVD and bootable USB drive having Mac OS X leopard. When i click alt, it DOESNOT show any of them ( I mean to say if DVD is also crashed, then it should atleast show USB drive and my HDD).
