So first an example:
On a Mac, if I so desired, I could place my iTunes folder on a server somewhere. Then I could connect to that server from all of my Macs, and place an aliases to the shared iTunes folder in place of where iTunes is looking for the real thing. And as long as I wasn't using more than one Mac's iTunes at the same time, this system could work very smooth.
So I'm trying to do basically the same thing in windows. I'm trying to do it with the save data folders for GTA games, which lives in the documents folder. I figured I could store the save data on my server, have windows automatically connect to the server when it boots up, and BAM, I could have access to all of my save data whether I was on my laptop in another state, or at home on my desktop.
But this "trick" (if you even want to call it that) didn't work. Because aliases in windows show up as .lnk files. So applications don't see the aliases as the actual folder they are looking for.
Is there a way around this issue? Also if there is, try to be specific, I don't know windows well.
