Problems, problems and more problems

Got w7 64 bit installed OK. Now the fun begins

Boot Camp Utility keeps saying I am not connected to the internet when I clearly am. It will now allow me to connect and download support software for Windows so I can actually do stuff

That is part one

Where and how can I get the same s/w from the Apple site. Nothing seems to be the right stuff

And to finish off with a real dumb question - how to I format a disc to copy the file to so it loads in Boot Camp?

Thanks so much for whatever tidbits you can share with an old fella

Have you downloaded the software from Boot Camp Assistant.?

Save the WindowsSupport folder to either a USB thumb drive formatted as FAT, a CD/DVD formatted as ISO 9660 or easier, copy the folder straight to your Windows partition/hard disk (Users/desktop).

Restart your Mac with Boot Camp into Windows.

In the Windows Start Menu, use the Run command and type cmd, then right-click on the program that appears and choose Run As Administrator.

If you are running Windows 7, the Run command is a bit hidden, so to speak. Pressing Command-R should bring it up.

Then enter;

D:
cd "Boot Camp\Drivers\Apple"
msiexec /i BootCamp64.msi

The installer should launch and proceed with the installation.

Thanks for this. I am running Lion and the first issue is that in BC Assistant, it keeps telling me I am NOT connected to the internet and no matter what I do I cannot get past that. I am of course connected but even going through their diagnostic I get the same result

I have found a number of files at Apple under Boot Camp search but there are about 14 or so and not sure which one to download.

I suspect I may dl the file once I find the right one in W7 as that is the only place I can find how to format a disc in the drive. It must be on the OSX side but I cannot find it. Disk Utility does not let me do it

Hope you have a couple more hints.

Thanks again

If you have been trying to set this up and still can't get it working, I would just dump the current installation and start over. Go all the way back to restoring your drive to a single partition (Mac) to get back to a stable starting point.

Now, run the Boot Camp assistant and have it create a new partition for Windows. When it prompts you, insert the installation disc and go through the entire installation process. When that finishes, let the machine reboot into Win7, then insert your OS X DVD - this will automatically attempt to install ALL of the Mac hardware drivers you need, particularly the Ethernet and WiFi drivers. Win7 should ask to reboot (maybe more than once), and after that you should be able to get online.

The problem may be made less simple because you're running the 64-bit version of Win7, and there aren't as many well-tested drivers for ANY hardware and 64-bit Win7.

The download is 630 MB which eventually contains an ISO image with all drivers for all Windows drivers for Macs.

Hope this helps !

Thank you for this. I did get the file and I hope I installed it correctly? DL'd in Mac. Burned folder to CD. Ran .exe file from disc in PC side and things seem to be working

My big headache now is coming from my Matrox Triple Head To Go box that runs my three monitor setup for flying. I think it is mostly fiddling with the resolution settings until everybody plays nice.

Wont bore you with the details 'cuz this isn't that type of forum I don't think :-)

Thanks again to all.

Glad it worked.

Didn't even know matrox was still in the business… I had a Millenium GPU back in the 90s and some very specialized CAD matrox card before, but can't recall what its name was.
