I'm about to install Linux on an iMac (DVSE 500mhz). I haven't used Linux on a Mac since PPC on an old PM4400 long time ago, and it's the first time ever I'm setting up a Workstation. I have some experience with Linux Workstations on i386 though.
YDL have just released 2.3 with these improvements (among others):
"kernel 2.4.19, CUPS, apt-get, OpenOffice 1.0, Galeon 1.2, Evolution 1.0.5, AbiWord 1.0.2."
Looks like they are actually switching to apt-get! Seems very promising, I think.

But there's also Mandrake 8.2.
Does anyone have something good to say about Mandrake/workstation (I already have the install CD's), or is YDL the obvious choice.

I have really always used YDL since 1.1 and have NO complaints from using it. Other distros I've tried include Mandrake which is good, but I would still prefer the system I've become accustomed to.

If you are really familiar with the Mandrake distro, I would think you could stay with 8.2. But YDL because of its latest release includes many technologies that I really could find useful and would want to install them anyway.

If the distro has what you need, use it. If you are more comfortable with another distribution that would likely be the best for you.

My vote would be for YDL!

YDL is much better than Mandrake and is much more mac-centric.
