I am trying to install the current distribution of linuxPPC (6/1/2001) + Xfree86 4.1 on a G3 350, Apple/ATI 128 Graphics Card + ProFormance3 (GLINT) with no luck.
- LinuxPPC starts from the CD but whatever kernel I choose, it will end up in a "default catch" at the open firmware prompt after doing something with the ProFormance Card.
- a few weeks ago I tried the same with the LinuxPPCQ4-2000 CD, removed the graphics card, installed linux, compiled my own kernel 2.4.4, reinserted card. I still was able to boot only with bootX, but now I could at least use my big screen -but slow because of the unaccelerated Pmac X-Server - just as unusuable as OSX 10.0.X
-Xfree 86 4.1 is released and it claims to support the GLINT (Permedia Chip) on the Formac Card.
I did a successfull download an install, but when started "XFree86 -configure" the configuration quits with an error 11 when the GLINT driver loads because it does not find several symbols.

I do not like to remove a Card everytime I want to switch OS, so maybe someone knows if Xfree86 4.1 runs with the ProFormance3 + ATI128 in a dual monitor configuration or at least if I am able to run X on my ProFormance3 and a black second screen in accelerated mode?

Thanks for reading!
