New to this forum and to Macs in general. I have used PC's for years and have respected Macs for many reasons. I finally bought one, a G3 Pismo Powerbook, when I heard about OS X (having used Linux on the PC for ages). I was impressed with the Beta, however, the final product was a bit of an anti-climax and I decided to buy SuSE (fairly cheap after all). However, I am still fairly new to Macs and have had a few problems. The only thing I can't seem to figure out is how to install SuSE on my HDD (I only have one) without installing Mac OS?
Thanks in advance,

neonflux

When you install any type of linux there should be a chapter in the install that asks you to partition your disk. You need swap, /, and /boot.

Mine looks like this(after running fdisk):

Command (m for help): p <-- To get it to print a list of partitions.

Disk /dev/hda: 32 heads, 63 sectors, 827 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 2016 * 512 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 11 11056+ 83 Linux <-- /boot
/dev/hda2 12 826 821520 5 Extended
/dev/hda5 12 44 33232+ 82 Linux swap <-- swap
/dev/hda6 45 827 789232+ 83 Linux <-- /

"And after we are through, ten years in making it to be the most of glorious debuts."

Hiya mate
I had YellowDogLinux on my machine up till I installed OSX, which on my 333mhz PB is something I'm beginning to regret. Anyway. On the mac there's no LILO. Specifically there are two loaders. One is called Bootx and the other is Yaboot. For your machine I think you need Yaboot, if they still haven't updated Bootx. The Suse installer will try to partition your disk for you and you need the following:
a 32Mb Mac HFS boot partition(this is important since hfs+ does not work)
a swap partition of well say 256Mb, no diffs to intel actually
a linux partition (both UFS)

Your best bet is actually to download the pdf with instructions on Linux installation from Yellow dog. They update the thing regularly and it is quite clear. You can mail me directly if you stillö get stuck.

Yeah, thanks for that.
I shoulda made myself more clear, but I know linux fairly well, but I was having problems with SuSE partitioning as it didn't like my "foreign partitions." In the end, I booted of my OS X cd and configured my partitions with DiskUtility before installing SuSE. Don't know why I didn't do that in the first place...
Anyway, just wondering if anybody has had any luck with playing DVDs on the PowerPPC and if they have any suggestions.
Thanks again,

neonflux
