I have a Powerbook 3400c/180. I want to know what release of Linux you all suggest for my laptop. I have downloaded Yellow Dog right now, but i dont know what really works best.

Don't know about the support for your hardware, but YellowDog and LinuxPPC are great distros. I haven't tried SuSe since it was a beta, because it was a difficult install and I couldn't get it right.

Both LinuxPPC and YellowDog should do you right. Although I've heard the YellowDog2.0 has a more recent kernel and software with it due to its being a more recent release. If you feel comfortable with installing and updating your kernel, either of these two distros should be great for you.

Back when I had my 3400/180/1.3/144, I had LinuxPPC running off of a SCSI Jaz drive. I think it was the 2000 Q1 release, and it worked great. The Jaz drive was horribly slow, though. The only thing that didn't work under LinuxPPC was the modem/ethernet card. I had to use an external modem. Maybe Yellow Dog has that supported, but if it doesn't, I'd say give LinuxPPC a try.

I think im going with yellow dog, but what did you have to do to make your pb boot off the linux install cd?
