I'm sorry if this isn't the right forum, but I'm trying to learn a little C++ and a few months ago I downloaded something called MPW Shell from (I think) the apple website. Does anyone know if this is an actual compiler? Now that I think about it, it's probably just a 'shell,' correct? But what good does it do me when I can create a program in any text editor? Is it designed for a greater purpose?

So does anyone know of an affordable C++ compiler for OS 8.1 or 8.6?

If you're a student you can get codewarrior pretty cheap. I got it for $49 bucks when I was a took a c++ class. I got to spend time fighting with programs at home rather than in a lab.

I haven't touch it since. I got an A in the class though...

OS X has some development tools. You might want to consider that but the machine you list is a bit old.

Codewarrior is probably 300 bucks and a new imac is 999 and comes with OS X.
