I managed to get LinuxPPC installed and working, but I can't seem to get it to enable accelerated video. I used this yaboot.conf file from linuxppc.org:

[begin script]

init-message = "Welcome"
timeout = 50
default = ultra_safe

image = vmlinux-2.2.18-4hpmac
label = ultra_safe
append = "video=atyfb video=ofonly"

image = vmlinux-2.2.18-4hpmac
label = default video

device = hd:9,\\:tbxi
label = sample device entry

[end]

This works, but it obviously doesn't enable hardware acceleration. I have an ATi RAGE 128 retail card. How would I modify this to enable the card?

If I put in this line:

append = "video=atyfb128 video=ofonly"

The machine won't boot; it hangs at the "booting..." prompt.

I would like to load linux on my G4, but it seems alot harder
than the PC version I loaded on an old Compaq. Any suggestions?

Alright Steve, there is documentation on how to do that at www.linuxppc.org I don't remember offhand where I saw it but it is somewhere there.

Alright Steve,

Try adding the line:
video=aty128fb

instead of the append line in the configuration for accelerated video. It worked for me.

I have another question as well, is there any way to boot into Mac OS from Linux without useing ybin or the OS 9 CD? I tried resetting my PRAM and I doesn't work. I tried booting from Open Firmware just using the text line Boot hd:12,\\:tbxi
but that doesn't work as well. Any suggestions?
