I have a PowerMac 6500/250... and I'm trying to install Yellowdog 2.1 on it... I installed BootX that came on the CD, but upon restarting I get Kernel Panics... saying that it couldn't mount the root fs on "" or 08:01

Hmm...

I tried Darwin and a utility that supposedly lets you install on unsupported computers, but had no luck. I want to get something other than MacOS on this computer... any suggestions? Debian? SuSe?

Yeah... about that. I forgot to choose my ramdisk, my bad... But the question about best *nix for Old World machines still applies

YDL all the way. LinuxPPC is not being supported any more. You get a lot from YDL. I've tried Mandrake, but prefer YDL.

I also would choose YDL on any Mac that supports it.

Yeah, I agree. I've used YDL on NewWorld machines before, so I'm not entirely new to it.

Although it up working for a few days, now when I boot I get a kernel panic. Doh.
