I have a free 3.4 Gig partition on my iMac DV SE 500 I want to put YDL 2.1 on to play around with. I've burned the iso image, it boots, no problems there.
To create its swap/boot partitions, YDL needs free, unallocated space on my hard drive, not just a partition.

I've tried to destroy this partition and free up the space using Disk Setup in OS 9 and Disk Utility in OS X. I'm pretty sure Disk Setup requires I repartition my entire HD and Disk Utility will just erase the partition and reformat it--but not deallocate or destroy it.

Can I do this with Tech Tool, Drive, Norton Utilities, or a similar program? Does anyone know a work around? Thanks.

Well if you boot into the Yellowdog installer, there is a disk utility... that will allow you to delete the 3.4 gig Apple_HFS partition that you want to unallocate... I'm pretty sure this will work.

Thank you---I didn't see that at first.

I'm sure I'll enjoy Linux, but I just can't see how anyone would prefer it to OS X as a desktop operating system on a recent Mac.
Oh well.[/LIST]
