ok this sounds stupid, but i lost 30 gigs on my hard drive
in my imac. the partition was acting weird so i backed it up
and erased it, then it only showed half the size. so i used
pdisk in linux to delete it and it shows up in linux as 30 gigs
but i it wont format, and it wont show up in the mac os, even
when the file type is hfs
any ideas as to what happened
figured one of you people has had something simaler happen

Since you're using Linux, fdisk, or pfdisk is much more powerful than pdisk.
Oh, and this really belongs more in the iMac forum than the modification forum.

If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

Beg to differ... the problem is regarding an iMac HD - the Linux issue was merely formatting the drive to see if it was a Mac OS prob which it evidently is; cause Linux sees all 30 gigs.
What is the partition scheme of your drive? Beforehand, that is.
Reformat it in Drive Setup, under OS9, and do a "custom initialisation" - make sure that half the drive isn't designated as "unused space" on the partition map diagram thingy...
