Anybody have any success installing from images downloaded from the debian site ? Burned a CD from the 2.2 rev3 image - would not boot. Rescue floppy and root floppy for the powerpc could not be imaged using disk copy oddly enough. Am I missing something here ?
Amateur in N.Y.C....
Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom.

I would buy the SuS 7.1 for PPC - $49.95

The thought had crossed my mind. Wanted to (a) avoid the commercial distributions and (b) try to do everything from scratch. SuSe sounds pretty good though - have to admit.

1. Problem burning a bootable CD seems to be a result of trying to use Apple’s built in disk burner. Others seem to have success using Toast [ which I have yet to acquire ].
2. From Linux Magazine [ Linux Magazine’s Annual Distribution Roundup ] February 2001 page 42 :
Debian GNU / Linux has the unique distinction of being the only true non-commercial distribution of Linux. it is produced by an international team of developers who want to build the most robust, free-software-based operating system possible, but who don't feel that it is necessary to focus on ease of use. (Which means that Debian's installation procedure can be a little intimidating to the uninitiated.)

Much respect to any GNU/Linux distro for PPC - but I really enjoy using "aptget" in Debian. It's a very elegant solution for package management. It makes me feel like a "true Jedi" each time I use it... whatever that means
I can't remember the last time I had to "re-install" Linux. And that's a good thing.
And you can always purchase Debian on CD... http://www.debian.org/distrib/vendors
