I currently run a server on a PowerMac 6400/200 running Yellow Dog Linux 2.1. I've ordered a new hard drive and when it gets here, I plan to put the new HD in the 6400 and install YDL 2.3 on it and bring it up to date.
In the meantime, though, I don't want the server to be down very long. I happen to have a Rev C iMac around, though. I'd like to take the old HD from the 6400 and put it in the iMac, and let the iMac serve as a temporary server while I prepare the 6400.
The 6400 is oldworld ROM and therefore uses BootX. The iMac is newworld, and uses yaboot by default. Will I be able to get Linux to boot with BootX on the new world machine? Or will I need to install and configure yaboot?
Secondly, are the machines similar enough that my install of YDL 2.1 will even boot on the iMac? Or will I be better off just forgetting about it and living with a bit of downtime?
Unfortunately, I don't have another 6400 to drop the hard drive into, otherwise I would...
