I have these Debian Linux CDs, because my friend has it on his computer, and so far I believe that it is the best Mac port of Linux out there. However, when I try to install it on my Cube, it simply will not install. I'm thinking of selling my CD's (because I did buy them for $30) unless somebody in this forum has installed it on their Cube before. If so, can you tell me how? It could just be my box that's not functioning properly.

Jar,
This forum can be pretty slow, so I'd hate for your post to languish in total silence, so i'll just add my 2 cents which is more like half a cent in this case.
Debian - I'd say that was adventurous, maybe a project for a hard-core mac/linux head at this point. it's on my menu, but not until I get a commercial distro like SuSE working first.
Having said that, i notice the Cube is not among the machines supported by SuSE 7.1. I'd take that as a sign that it may have a lot to do with what machine you're trying to get it installed on.
Seems to me Linux on Mac is all about research, reading, patience, trial and error.
here's a couple of links to keep the ball rolling

Hey, thanks for your reply. As much as I would want to install the Debian port on the Cube, it doesn't support SuSE 7.1, like you and others have told me. Would anyone know if Yellow Dog or LinuxPPC are good alternatives? It seems that most of the better Linux ports are only available for the PC. Thanks.

LinuxPPC seems to have languished in recent times. The YellowDog distro is really nice. I've run it on an 8500 and *loved* it. Once I retire the 8500 as a scanning station, I'll put the 8500 into service as a linux server with YellowDog. It seems the latest incarnation of YellowDog is designed for installation with the new-World machines (of which you have).
I haven't gotten Debian installed, although I'm also interested in it, too. In all I'm going to get a BSD variant onto a pre-PPC machine one of these days. I've got several older machines and am just dying to try and get a form of unix on them. Debian and BSD are the options I know of.
If you decide to try YellowDog Linux, I think you'd be very happy with it. It is a full distro with LOTS of software and MOL (Mac-On-Linux) as an install option. This lets you run MacOS9 within a 'compatibility environment' much like in OSX. But the environment is confined to a single window. It really shines though for compatibility and running Mac software while running Linux on top.
