and if it does, is there any support documentation specific for mandrake 8.2 for ppc? thanks.

It does work on old world machines and there is ppc specific documentation, but not as much as you would like. If you really want a PPC Linux you should go for YellowDog. Both are exactly the same once up and running and on the PPC YellowDog is much easier to install.
