i've just noticed, the book in the DL2 icon is back to front
if the spine is on the left, then that means the barcode is printed on the front cover - but they're always on the back aren't they?

Either that, or it's upside down and you are looking at the back cover.

or maybe it's a Japanese manga cos those read right to left (as does all Japanese books i think? it's just that i'm more likely to have a manga book in my flat than an actual japanese book)

Either way... it's an awful icon. Especially for a piece of software that is supposed to be so visually stunning.

As Illitrate points out, the barcode is on the correct side for a Japanese book (although it is usually in the top-left corner of the cover, not the bottom-left).

All said, I think it's a pretty nice icon, and very much in keeping with what I expect from a Mac application.

yeah, i don't think the icon is as bad as Atheist says - it's very functional as, by looking at the icon, you can see what the app does - it's scans books and discs.
and the alternative would be either a monster type icon, that would look a bit childish on the dock, or a small set of shelves, which would look cramped and bland i think
