Has anyone made an app that somehow alerts you that you have a voicemail without having to manually turn the screen on?

Um, actually this already exists. It's called iphone OS X.x. If you have your ringer switch on, when someone calls, it rings, and if it goes to VoiceMail and they leave a message, your phone will play a pre-selected noise to alert you that you have a voicemail. If you have your ringer turned off, vibrate, then once you get a voicemail, it will vibrate once to alert you. I know this, cause my wife calls 5,167 times a day, normally when I'm knee deep in something. The voicemail alert when on vibrate is very similar to a text message alert.

Actually, it only beeps/rings once. After that, you have to manually check to see if the phone rang when you were out of the room by pushing the home button and unlocking it and touching the phone icon to see if there's a red dot.

The current system lets you find out whether you have voicemails, but it keeps others from casually determining this by just glancing at your phone. It's a balance between convenience and security.

I really want a repeating beep - that nags me until I acknowledge it.
I'll keep praying for an app....
