Apple has released another ad for the iPhone 4S and its biggest selling point, the Siri voice assistant. The new commercial stars film director Martin Scorsese driving into downtown New York City for a busy day, and using Siri to help him reorganize his schedule, check on traffic, and identify the whereabouts of a friend. The ad is the first to show Apple's "Find a Friend" app in action, pointing out that Siri can leverage the program in response to a question such as "where's Rick?"

The director of such films as Goodfellas and last year's Oscar-winning Hugo is seen travelling by taxi towards downtown. The ad begins with Scorsese asking for an overview of his day, and when told he has a full schedule he asks Siri, "Are you serious?" The iPhone replies: "Yes, I am not allowed to be frivolous." Scorsese then re-arranges his schedule a bit and checks on traffic. On seeing that it is bad, he directs the driver to cut across to an alternate route to save time. The ad ends with Scorsese saying "I like you Siri, you're going places," to which Siri responds "I'll try to remember that." An interesting trivia note in the spot is that the taxi cab number, shown in two brief shots at the beginning and end of the ad, is 3S96 -- the same cab number used in the 1976 film Taxi Driver, also directed by Scorsese. The driver in the ad is never clearly seen.

As the economy goes back down the toilet (the inevitable)... Apple will have a hard time convincing people the "NEED" to spend more for a new iPhone... When will the marketing madness stop?? When we $hit in the mountains??

I don't understand. Marketing madness?

Is advertising alien to your chosen lifestyle?

Is the concept that making a product in large numbers requires being able to sell it to people not part of your world?

Do you live in a hut, hunting your food and bartering for firewood?

hey 1999.... I remember when you can post without logging in into MACNN those days... ahhh great times indeed. Hunting?... yes.... hut? not yet.... bartering for firewood?... I would rather have the axe...

Point is, social engineering has took its course, time to come back to your roots... you will soon too someday. You will be asking God to help you (and for anyone reading). Listen to Him... It's never too late.

Apple should find a way to use it's influence to get the masses back on track: (they wanna act so smart and ahead of the curve), connect folks without the high cost in their products. Was once about music, not anymore.... now its "look at my features".... they are running out of ways to increase value in their product lines while maintaining margins. Don't expect anything revolutionary anytime soon.

The phablet is the near future, and samsung has it right, and has a head start. Apple should donate money being that they can move many products ever year, which also means they are creating a lot of landfill as well that needs to be disposed of. Apple might eventually get so big that they may want to look into buying a garbage & recycling company, then (& hopefully not) they may fudge the protocols n policies like most corporate giants.
