Apple has released a maintenance update for its Final Cut Pro software, bringing interface improvements and a list of other changes. Dual viewers with separate video scope displays are geared for easier shot comparison, while the Share interface and import window have been redesigned.

RED camera support enables users to take advantage of native Redcode RAW editing and background trasnscoding to Apple's own ProRes format. The release also adds support for third-party MXF plug-ins, along with XML 1.2 metadata import and export. Other visible changes include new options for placing chapter markers, copying effects, freezing frames, or adjusting the drop shadow effect. Users will also find new controls for combining audio from multiple angles, or moving connected clips in the storyline. Final Cut Pro 10.0.6 is a free update for existing users, or a $300 purchase for new customers. (Download - Mac App Store)

That's odd. I do have my Final Cut Pro running on Mac mini. I guess it's fine for 2 minutes footage.

Tim Cook said "next year" a few months ago. So sometime in 2013 the new Mac Pro will ship (most are guessing early 2013 rather than later).
When the CEO says something is going to happen, it usually does.

Final Cut Pro should run quite nicely on the current MacPro even without Thunderbolt and one can easily add USB 3.0, Fibre Channel, and other high-speed interfaces using the MacPro's PCI Express slots.

The delay with the introduction of a MacPro with Thunderbolt is caused by Intel's lack of a Thunderbolt-capable Xeon-class CPU. So, there is little Apple can do about it except wait. However, the industry expects Intel to provide a Thunderbolt-enabled CPU early next year.
