A new media-sharing app, Rabbit, has launched as a closed beta for the Mac. The program is designed to let groups of friends watch video, listen to music, or share other content such as documents and photos at the same time. Users join public or private rooms, where they can share local content or curated material from sources like Hulu or YouTube.

The app also supports video chat, including splinter conversations within a single room. To make things easier to coordinate the app is always on in the background, and notifies users whenever a friend signs in or joins a room. Optionally, contacts can be imported from Facebook. Rabbit's developers are offering access to the beta on a "rolling" basis. The Mac software requires OS X 10.7 or later; after the beta period, Android, iOS, and Windows clients are promised.
