We at MacNN
would like to take a moment
to wish Apple a happy birthday. The company was incorporated on April Fool's Day in 1976
, making it 37 years old today. It is one of the few computer makers from the early computer manufacturing era to still be in business, and unlike most of the others is growing, setting records
and generally more influential than it has ever been. It is fair to say that without Apple, all computing uses -- even Windows PCs and Androids, the Internet and cell phones, even commercial music and so much more -- would have ended up profoundly different. Even without its legendary co-founder Steve Jobs
at the helm, it's very possible that Apple's best days are still in front of it.
Stonestown Apple Store in SF to expand
One of Apple's retail stores, the Stonestown Galleria
location, will be moving to dramatically larger digs
within the same mall, according to ifoAppleStore
. The current store has only around 1,500 square feet of public display space, making the smallest of the current SF stores.
A black plywood "curtain" has fallen over a new location on the ground level (just a few stores down from the present location) next to the Nordstrom store that was formerly occupied by three outlets, allowing for renovations to make a single Apple store that would offer more than 10,000 square feet. The move would grow the Stonestown store to roughly the same size as the other two San Francisco stores. The renovation and move should be completed in time for this year's holiday buying season in the fall.
