Desktop and web publishing developer Quark
has updated its DesignPad app
(free) to version 1.5, bringing a number of improvements to the program. The app lets designers concept and start layout projects from the iPad, and now offers precision image placement, the ability to change text boxes to image boxes and vice-versa, undo an re-do, a blank document option, text outlining, shadow colors and new controls for box adjustments. The "Pro" version is an in-app upgrade and adds further features.
In addition, the app offers slider stabilization technology, the ability to move boxes off the grid and reset them, better text controls including stroked text, improved performance and various bug fixes. A "Pro Features Pack" is available for $10 as an in-app purchase, which adds PDF output as an option over the default PNG exporting; support for AirPrint to print layouts; new "wave shapes" based on the Shapemaker functionality in Xpress to make unusual box shapes; new "Dynamic Grids" that allow grid adjustments to boxes and columns within a live layout, including header size, caption size, margins and gutters; Dropbox support, and the ability to remove the "Made with Quark DesignPad" watermark from saved or shared images.
