has debuted a new iPhone app to allow patients with degenerative eye conditions such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy to monitor their condition at home. The program, called myVisionTrack
, is meant to supplement visits to eye care professionals by giving users a method of assessing their own vision function, as seen in the video below. The program stores test results and can even automatically alert healthcare providers if a sudden deterioration is detected. Currently the FDA approval
is available only for the iPhone 4S and thus the app is pre-loaded onto iPhones by the company itself, but a downloadable version has been submitted for clinical trials and eventual clearance.
Cloud Mate for iOS and Mac manages files in iCloud, Dropbox, more

has launched an iOS version
of its Cloud Mate
application, letting users sync documents and generally manage files from multiple cloud providers in a single app. The new program ($4) for iOS 6.1 and later can act both as a companion app to the Mac version of Cloud Mate
($7) and as a general cloud-storage manager, incorporating support for Dropbox and Google Drive as well as Apple's iCloud. The Mac version of the app treats iCloud like any other Finder folder, give users a Dropbox-like ability to automatically sync the local folder to their iCloud storage space. The mobile and Mac apps also automatically sync, making transfers of any kind of document between Macs and iOS devices effortless, as seen in the video (below).
PhotoFast unveils Lightning Mount and Ultra Dock 2 adapters
A set of adapters from PhotoFast
now allows Lightning-equipped devices such as the iPhone 5 and latest iPad or iPod touch to be used with most 30-pin dock connector-compatible accessories in a manner superior to just Apple's 30-pin adapter alone. The Lightning Mount ($30) is a shaped holder and adapter that lets Apple's Lightning-to-30pin adapter and device sit more comfortably in the "well" usually provided for 30-pin devices, giving the adapter more support and fit. The Ultra Dock 2 ($80) is a new version of the company's existing Ultra Dock
that lets both 30-pin and Lightning-equipped device be docked and charged together. It comes complete with two Lightning mounts and provides up to 25 watts of power. The Lightning-to-30pin adapters are not included with either product.
