Adobe is developing an iOS companion app to the desktop version of Lightroom, the company's product manager for Lightroom, Tom Hogarty, revealed Wednesday via an online show, The Grid. The app should support controlling many of the same elements as the desktop software, such as exposure, clarity, shadows, highlights, white balance, and noise reduction. At the foundation of the app though is the Smart Previews technology from the Lightroom 5 beta.

The feature produces a lossy DNG image based on an original RAW file, creating something that's easier for a computer to work with but which can still be used to sync edits back to the RAW file. It's these DNGs that the iOS app is working with, allowing devices as old as the iPad 2 to perform editing.

Edits will be cloud-synced. The app also includes features such as 100 percent zoom, cropping and flipping, and automatic adjustments for some parameters. No other details on it are yet available.
