Smith Micro has launched Poser 10 and Poser Pro 2014, updates of the developer's core 3D rendering and animation tools. Both apps have gained a number of new features, such as subdivision surfaces, which let users set subdivision levels for props, figures, or body parts using Pixar's OpenSubdiv library. The technology should improve aspects like bending accuracy and object smoothness.

A new Bullet Physics tool simulates both rigid- and soft-body dynamics, including hair, which should save work in creating realistic animation. Along those lines Smith Micro has added a Live Simulation mode, enabling real-time animation previews.

A Comic Book Preview Mode lets comic illustrators generate color or black-and-white art, with line controls and shading effects. A Fitting Room meanwhile lets people attach existing clothing and props to a figure and quickly tailor them for differences in the figure's dimensions.

Until June 30th, Poser 10 is $240, and Poser Pro 2014 is $400. After that point pricing for Poser 10 will go up to $300, while Poser Pro will jump to $500.
