Microsoft has released an update
for Microsoft Office 2011 for Macs that corrects a number of bugs in addition to making the program available as a subscription offering. The new version, 14.3.6, requires that users already have at least 14.1.0 installed -- and fixes various issues. Two that affected Outlook include a problem where Outlook would repeatedly try to send messages that exceeded server-side size limits, and a bug where trying to sync a folder from which many messages were deleted on another client would cause Outlook to freeze.
The update also fixes an issue that caused Microsoft Word to be unable to save file to a Server Message Block (SMB) share. The update requires OS X 10.5.8 or later, and can be downloaded either through the AutoUpdate program within Office 2011, or by direct download from Microsoft's support page
URL Extractor adds PDF support, improvements in version 4.0
Data mining and data processing company Tension Software
have upgraded URL Extractor
to version 4.0, adding the ability of the program to pull web and contact information out of PDF files both local and online. The new version also sports an improved design, improved engine, better functionality, improved import features and additional stability. The $50 software, available both directly
from Tension and through the Mac App Store
[MAS listing not yet updated], is designed to automatically scan documents looking for URL and email addresses which it then copies into a separate file.
The program can extract web and email data from web pages, search engine results and local text files, spreadsheets and other formats. Users can import a list of web page addresses and let the app explore the pages to collect data, including from linked pages -- or insert a list of keywords to use for running a search from a search engine, gathering data from the results. The program can also examine local files for matching data. It requires OS X 10.7.3 or later.
