The official Apple Store app
has started offering free downloadable iTunes content in the US. The first piece, Color Zen, is a puzzle game for the iPhone and iPad that normally costs 99 cents. To find the download, a person has to select the Stores tab.
The app generates a unique iTunes code for each download, which is then automatically fed into the iOS version of the iTunes Store. It's expected
that Apple will offer more free downloads on a weekly basis, including music, videos, books, and/or other apps. The company is also allegedly pushing workers to install the app on iOS devices during Personal Setup sessions, in part to spur iPhone sales through the app's built-in upgrade eligibility notifications.
