Following yesterday's quiet release of new iMac models, OWC has started offering RAM upgrades for the 27-inch models. Starting at $98, OWC offers PC3-12800 DDR3L 1600MHz kits ranging from 8GB up to 32GB that are fully compatible with the 2013 27-inch iMac. In total, four kits are being sold: 8GB, 12GB, 16GB and 32GB, each at a significant discount as compared to Apple's own options. For example, the 32GB kit sells for $359 as compared to Apple's $600 option. All of the kits can be ordered online, and easily installed at home by accessing the memory panel on the rear of any 27-inch model iMac. The 21.5-inch iMac model, like its predecessor, cannot have its memory upgraded by users.

Zagg Arsenal offers rugged protection for iPhone 5/5s

Accessory maker Zagg has released a new rugged case designed for the iPhone 5 and 5s. Dubbed Arsenal, the case combines a soft inner casing with a hard outer shell to provide complete protection for the device. All of the iPhone's ports and buttons are fully accessible while stored in the case, and small flaps provide additional dust protection for the Lighting and headphone ports. Also included with the Arsenal is the invisibleSHIELD Extreme, a screen protector that is said to provide additional protection against glass breakage. The Arsenal can be purchased through Zagg's online store for $60.

OWC is a great third party OEM for all things related to memory and storage, BUT they should support their large current user base better. Firmware for their SSD's is released once or twice a year, however, installing this firmware is impossible on MacPro 4,1's forward. The SSD's have to be manually removed and updated on a Mac more compatible with OWC's funky Ubuntu boot DVD that has to be created and booted on the Mac. I've even taken to using a Windoze machine to do the firmware update - yes it is a major hardware shuffle. The bootable Linux / Ubuntu DVD does not boot on MacPros. OWC's answer - give us a week and we'll provide it on a bootable USB. Not. Their early Sep 2013 USB bootable drive fell by the wayside and the MacPro 4,1 update problem remains. Thanks for the support OWC.
