Apple has started selling
refurbished 128GB models of the fourth-generation iPad at its online store. The 128GB models are a relatively recent addition to the iPad lineup, having arrived a few months after the fourth-gen tablets were first introduced. A Wi-Fi-only refurb is $679, $120 less than retail, while a 3G/4G-equipped version is $789, making for a $140 discount. Refurbished iPads come with new batteries, warranties, and outer shells.
The hardware is likely to become outdated in the near future, however. Apple is expected to announce a fifth-generation iPad
next month; rumors have pointed to it getting an A7 processor, 2GB of RAM, a Touch ID sensor, and a narrower, iPad mini-like design. Apple may also be considering making 32GB the minimum capacity, since 16GB can be extremely limiting, and it would help distinguish the iPad versus the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad mini, as well as rival tablets.
