Web proxy Disconnect Search launches for search engine privacy
Disconnect announced today its release of its newest service, Disconnect Search
. Disconnect was founded by a former Google engineer and a consumer-rights attorney on the principle that individuals should have access to online privacy. Designed so users can continue to utilize popular search engines, Disconnect Search facilitates private searches through a browser's omnibus or address bar.
By routing search queries through Disconnect's servers, queries appear to be coming from Disconnect as opposed to a specific user's computer. Keywords entered into search engines are thus prevented from being documented by sites that are visited from search results pages, and all queries are encrypted -- preventing ISPs from viewing them. Disconnect does not log information, including IP addresses. Available for Chrome and Firefox browsers, Disconnect Search can be downloaded from Disconnect's site, and is priced using a "Pay What You Want" scale in order to make the software financially accessible to all.
