Developer SuperMegaUltraGroovy has released a major new version of its song-learning software Capo, now at version 3.0. The update features automatic chord and beat analysis and detection, saving users a great deal of time. It adds guitar chord display for those learning the instrument, allows the creation of "clean" loops by creating regions that snap to the beats, display beats and bars for the current position of the song, and offers a new count-in feature in addition to its original changing-key and slowdown features.

The program, now on sale for $30 on the Mac App Store (normally $50), lets users generate tablature and slow down music to help students learn it, and can alter the pitch and key of any standard audio file from iTunes or a number of other audio file formats. In addition to creating transcriptions of the music, it is able to annotate particular subtleties in the recording, so that things like note-bending and vibrato are included in the score.

The new regions feature allows for the creation of "clean" loops by snapping to the beats in a selection of music, and users can add a "count-in" before looping within a region. The new display of beats and bars is a boon for those who can read music or prefer it over timecode readouts.

The program retains the familiar look of the previous version, and all the main features such as quick tab entry and precise pitch and speed controls. The automatic beat detection engine creates a built-in metronome for the song, helpful for building solos and improvisations. The $30 price is a celebration of the new version and is only offered for a limited time.
