Apple is planning to bring its iPhone trade-in initiative -- officially known as the Reuse and Recycling Program -- to European Apple Stores, a source claims. The company is reportedly already preparing training materials for UK staff, with the intent of launching the program locally in the next few months. A small group of stores in the region have actually started training, but it's expected to take a few weeks for the process to reach every UK shop.

The source adds that Apple plans to start training in other European countries soon, but it appears as though the UK will be the first to launch. In that country, at least, the behind-the-scenes aspects of the program will be handled by BrightStar, the same firm responsible in the US.

The terms of the program let people bring in an old iPhone and get a custom gift card, valued according to the model and condition of the device. Although third-party trade-in services will often offer more cash for iPhones, the Apple option may snare a number of people through its convenience.

The tech press is offering story after story about various iPhone trade-in programs. Can't we have just one or two about what's happening to those phones after they're traded in?
