Despite using an extremely compact and integrated design, the video card on the 2013 Mac Pro may be upgradable, a French site suggests. Mac4Ever writes that based on a hands-on look, the GPU appears to be located on a daughter card. While Apple is using a proprietary connector, the card should be removable, in theory allowing third parties to make and sell replacement options. A source at Apple allegedly echoes this view.

Previous Pros were built more like standard Windows PCs, giving owners the option to replace just about any part so long as there was a Mac-compatible version. The 2013 edition is built more like iMacs and MacBooks, sacrificing upgrade freedom in exchange for benefits like a compact shape and reduced noise.

Oh great, with these new MacBook Pros I just might be able to replace the only thing I don't want to replace, the graphics card. The RAM is soldered in and can't be changed. Getting inside to replace anything like an SSD or hard drive is so difficult that MacFixIt gives it a 1 on a 10 point scale of fixability.

For comparison, I can swap out both the memory and the hard drive on my MacBook in about ten minutes using just a couple of standard screwdrivers.

I was actually wondering if the mac pro might allow future upgrades to another CPU card. Take out a video and put in a new CPU. Doesn't seem like something totally impossible. Also to the first commenter the mac pro memory is user replaceable - its sec so its going to be pretty expensive.
